Augustine Wan Wins the Rick Banman Award for Mentorship

On May 29th, 2021, RJC’s eleventh annual Rick Banman Mentorship Award was presented virtually to Augustine Wan.
Established in 2011, the Rick Banman Mentorship Award honours the late Rick Banman. Rick was an Associate in the Vancouver office and part of RJC for nineteen years. He was highly regarded by his peers and recognized for his dedication as a team member and for his ability and commitment to mentoring others.
Augustine is an enthusiastic and passionate engineer whose mentorship has been an integral part of career development for many people. “As any great team player would, Augustine is always encouraging and reflects a tremendous positive attitude. He has taught me how to better handle pressure with his light-hearted approach and constant advice to take a step back and look at a problem holistically” said one of his nominators.
A Project Engineer with RJC’s Vancouver Structural Engineering team, Augustine received numerous nominations for the Award. All of his nominators wanted to recognize Augustine’s talent as an engineer and his commitment and willingness to provide guidance and mentorship.
His colleagues value Augustine’s approachability and how he encourages and teaches others. He provides guidance to solve problems and learn, while reflecting on his own experiences to help others in their careers. He maintains the highest caliber of performance for all his work, inspiring others to adhere to those same standards. He is always there to help, sharing his vast knowledge of structural design and taking the time to explain problems while ensuring those he works with understand the fundamentals. His commitment to mentoring, teaching and supporting many young engineers at RJC is deeply appreciated. Augustine has not forgotten what it is like to be in the early stages of an engineering career; he explains problems and mentors others in their career goals.
