Monrit Chatha Receives 2022 Barrie Sarjeant Award
- Details
Monrit Chatha captured her audience with her presentation to win this year’s Barrie Sarjeant Award Competition.
Monrit’s presentation was titled ‘The Cost of Resiliency.’ She shared how RJC can comment and inform others on the cost of resiliency. Her overview included looking at component resiliency, structural resiliency, climate resiliency, people resiliency, education and of course, the cost of resiliency. Her presentation was an inspiring look at how to think not only of the cost of resilience today, but how to discuss a return on investment and the potential savings following an event.
“It was an honour to be selected as this year’s winner amongst such a strong group of presenters. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity and am so proud” shares Monrit. “This competition is just one example of RJC’s commitment to the professional and personal growth of its employees.”
Monrit is a Design Engineer in Vancouver. She graduated from the University of British Columbia in Civil Engineering with a minor in commerce. She is part of the RJC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Employee Resource Group (ERG) and is passionate about making everyone’s experience at RJC as consistent and supportive as it has been for her. Monrit is Vice President of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) British Columbia chapter.
This year's competition theme was “Resiliency: The New Normal.” Other outstanding presentations were shared by:
- Kevin Zwaagstra, Calgary, AB – TELUS Len Werry Turbine Replacement
- Rebecca Henderson, Edmonton, ON – Edmonton Southgate Mall Sears Redevelopment
- Evan Cambridge, Victoria, BC – Resiliency: Keeping up with Construction Engineers
- Jordan Swail, Kitchener, ON – Sunlife Triple Glazing Retrofit
Barrie Sarjeant and Ron Mazza, former RJC Principals, started the Barrie Sarjeant Award competition to highlight excellence in our work, and more importantly, to encourage the dissemination of new and creative ideas. The internal competition includes selected presenters from RJC, presenting on a wide variety of project types and practice areas.
Congratulations to all participants for their professional, engaging and informative presentations.
